CREATIVITY NESTLED IN THE PERTH HILLS
Andrea is a ceramic artist and a teacher and Vlado is a civil engineer, and they love engaging in and collaborating on interesting projects. They built their energy efficient passive solar home on the foundations of the old 70’s house. The house is designed so that spaces can change function as the owners needs change and creating the artists residency is the latest transformation of some of the areas.
As the kids moved out, the house became too large for Andrea, Vlado, and their 2 dogs, however the location, large ceramic studio and workshop shed was too hard to part ways with. Instead, they decided to create The Blue Studio Residency and share the beautiful location as well as the studio with the makers, creatives and artists needing a new inspiration, a break in the routine or a new space to work on their projects.
AN ARTIST WITH A PASSION FOR CREATIVE EXCHANGE
Andrea is a ceramic artist with almost 30 years of experience and is passionate about making and promoting ceramics, sharing knowledge and cultivating creative spaces. For the past 4 years she manages ClayMake Studio - an open access teaching ceramic studio in Maylands with her daughter Emma.
Throughout her career she has been involved in local pottery groups, exhibiting groups, lecturing at TAFE, tutoring at art centres, writing for the ceramic publications, presenting at conferences, curating exhibitions, teaching ceramic technology and glaze mixing classes, as well as creating her own work. She actively participates in prestigious international events such as Sculpture by the sea in Perth and Sydney and, by invitation, Venice Biennale.
Andrea has a wealth of knowledge to share and mentor at Blue Studio Residency, whether it's slip casting, throwing, hand building and much more.
"I want Blue Studio Residency to be a melting pot of ideas and creativity. I'm looking forward to exchanging ideas, stories, and all things art with the creatives who stay with us.”
NATURAL BEAUTY AT YOUR DOORSTEP
Blue Studio Residency is located in the Perth hills on the edge of the Darling Scarp, walking distance between Mundy Regional Park and Lesmurdie Falls National Park (about 22 km east of Perth CBD). With easy access to public transport and parking, Blue Studio Residency is perfect for a ceramic artist who wants to go out and explore, or hide away and focus.
The Lesmurdie Falls, only a short walk from the Studio and is spectacular in the winter months. The water cascades over the granite edge 40m down into the lush valley, offering stunning views over the Swan Coastal Plain towards Perth and surrounding suburbs.
Blue Studio surroundings offer an extensive network of nature walk trails that are popular for the panoramic views, granite outcrops and profuse wildflower display in spring. There is simply inspiration wherever you look.
